Early career researcher workshopA Workshop for INDRUM2026 Early Career Researchers Elena Nardi (University of East Anglia, UK) Luca Lamanna (University of Milan “Statale”, Italy) The Workshop for INDRUM2026 Early Career Researchers will be a space to foster community and discuss topics pertinent to early career researchers in university mathematics education. Any INDRUM Conference participant in their graduate degree or the first few years of a post-graduate position are welcome to participate. In this workshop, we will share insights and advice from various aspects of our experiences in the profession, such as preparing a manuscript for submission to a peer-reviewed mathematics education research journal. Participants will have the optional opportunity to share and get feedback on an outline of a journal paper they are working on. The workshop will also have space for participants to reflect on their own needs in their current career stages. We hope the workshop will be a productive space for building community and making connections. Optional: Workshop participants have the option of preparing a brief, maximum one slide Journal Paper Outline (JPO) they are currently working on (or planning to work on!), including brief statements of the paper's main point and how you aim to establish the paper’s originality, significance, and rigour (theoretical and methodological). Those who attended the INDRUM2022 or INRUM2024 workshop for early career researchers are very welcome to also attend this 2026 Workshop! The workshop will take place on Monday 15 June from 10:00 – 14:00, prior to the start of the INDRUM Conference. Because of the early start time, we recommend that workshop attendees arrive in Dubrovnik on Sunday if possible. The three 60-minute sessions will be structured as follows: Session 1 (60m) After introductions, the three workshop leaders will facilitate discussion focused on writing journal articles based on graduate thesis work, either from their own post-graduate work or from co-authoring with doctoral students. In addition to small-group and collective discussion, there will also be a padlet to gather questions, facilitate conversation, and share resources. Break (10m) Session 2 (60m) Participants who submit an optional Journal Paper Outline (JPO) will briefly present their ideas and requests for feedback. All workshop participants will discuss the JPOs in pairs or small groups and will share key points from the discussions. Lunch (40m) During the provided lunch, there will be informal networking opportunities among workshop participants. Session 3 (60m) In this part of the workshop, we will discuss issues raised in the padlet and zoom out to a discussion of what being a post-graduate researcher in university mathematics education research is like. We will do so in small groups and then in plenary discussion. Session 4 (45m) - lunch on Thursday, 18 June Wrap-up session: unanswered questions from the workshop & padlet. Participants will gather and discuss eventual questions that remained open from the workshop and/or that they had the opportunity to explore during the conference. This session will also provide an opportunity to talk about participants' experience at INDRUM and look forward to future work(s). If you plan to attend the workshop, please register here by Monday 1 June, if possible. If you would like to discuss a plan for a paper you wish to write, please send your Journal Paper Outline to Elena (e.nardi@uea.ac.uk), Megan (mwawro@vt.edu), and Luca (luca.lamanna@unimi.it) by Monday 8 June! You may also ask Elena, Megan, and Luca questions that you wish them to consider as they are preparing for the workshop at ECR Workshop INDRUM2026 also by Monday 8 June! |
